The Schizophrenia, Cognition & Imaging Laboratory (SCI-Lab) is devoted to understanding the function of the human brain in health and in disease. Schizophrenia is a debilitating disorder characterized by psychotic experiences such as delusions, hallucinations and disorganization; the disorder affects more than 1% of the population. Despite advances in pharmacotherapy and increased government support services, the cost of schizophrenia to the individual, family members and society remains unacceptably high. Advances in the treatment of individuals experiencing psychoses are hampered by our lack of understanding of the pathophysiology underlying psychotic experiences. Our lab is dedicated to research aimed at elucidating the neuropathophysiology underlying  psychotic symptoms. We use a variety of cognitive paradigms in behavioural and functional imaging studies to achieve this goal.

SCI-Lab is a part of the UBC Brain Research Centre, and works in close collaboration with the Schizophrenia Program and the Mood Disorders Program, Department of Psychiatry, UBC.
